Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn 1 And by ten nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 Enter then My garden." 30
