(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 gardens and fountains. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
