Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
