The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 and taught to him 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 So know that Allah only is the Owner of all - the Hereafter and this world. 25
