The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 a chastisement from Allah, the Lord of the ascending steps, 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
