He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 For him who does not care, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
