Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 They will enter in the hot blazing Fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 In which are high thrones. 13 And cups set at hand. 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
