۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them". 53 He said, "Both you and your fathers have certainly been in error." 54 They said: "Are you expressing your true ideas before us or are you jesting?" 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 By Allah, I will certainly outwit your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone' 57 Then he reduced them to fragments, all save the chief of them, that haply they might have recourse to it. 58 "Who has done this to our deities? He must be a wrongdoer." 59 Some said, "We heard a young man, called Abraham, talking about them." 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." 64 Then they turned to themselves (their first thought and said): "Indeed you [Ibrahim (Abraham)] know well that these (idols) speak not!" 65 He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? 66 “Disgrace be upon you and all the idols whom you worship instead of Allah; so do you not have sense?” 67 They cried: Burn him and stand by your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham, 69 They wished to entrap him, but We made them greater losers. 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in superfluity, and every one made We righteous 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
