He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 On honoured leaves 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 Olives and dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, joyous; 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
