The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it sets: 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
