Jinns (Al-Jinn)
28 verses, revealed in Mecca after A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf) before Y S (Yaa Seen)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Say, "It has been revealed to me that a band of the jinn listened [to the Quran] and they said, "We have heard a really wonderful recital, 1 Guiding unto rectitude; wherefore we have believed therein, and we shall by no means associate with our Lord anyone. 2 our Lord is too exalted to have either a wife or son. 3 ‘And that the fool among us used to utter false exaggerations against Allah.’ 4 and we had thought that men and jinn would never speak against God a lie. 5 But there were certain men of mankind who would take refuge with certain men of the jinn, and they increased them in vileness, 6 They thought, as you did, that God would never raise up anyone from the dead. 7 'And we have sought to reach the heaven; but found it filled with stern guards and flaming fires. 8 And that we used to sit in some of the sitting-places thereof to steal a hearing, but he who would (try to) listen now would find a flame lying in wait for him: 9 'And we understand not whether ill is intended to those on earth, or whether their Lord (really) intends to guide them to right conduct. 10 ‘And among us some are virtuous and some are the other type; we are split into several branches.’ 11 We have realized that we could never thwart God on earth and that we would never be able to thwart Him by flight. 12 Hence, as soon as we heard this [call to His] guidance, we came to believe in it: and he who believes in his Sustainer need never have fear of loss or injustice. 13 Some of us have come to submission, and some of us are iniquitous.'" Those who have submitted have taken the right course; 14 'But those who swerve,- they are (but) fuel for Hell-fire'- 15 If people were to keep firmly to the Right Way, We would have vouchsafed them abundant rain 16 So that We might try them with respect to it; and whoever turns aside from the reminder of his Lord, He will make him enter into an afflicting chastisement: 17 "And the places of worship are for Allah (alone): So invoke not any one along with Allah; 18 when God's servant stood up to pray to Him, they pressed close to him in great numbers, almost stifling him. 19
