The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 He verily will be content. 21
