Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
KAF HA YA 'AIN SAD. 1 A mention of the Mercy of your Lord to his worshiper Zachariah, 2 When he called to his Lord a private supplication. 3 He said: My Lord! surely my bones are weakened and my head flares with hoariness, and, my Lord! I have never been unsuccessful in my prayer to Thee: 4 "Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues) (will do) after me: but my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Thyself,- 5 "(One that) will (truly) represent me, and represent the posterity of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord! one with whom Thou art well-pleased!" 6 [Thereupon the angels called out unto him: "O Zachariah! We bring thee the glad tiding of [the birth of] a son whose name shall be John. [And God says,] "Never have We given this name to anyone before him." 7 He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" 8 Allah said: even so! Thy Lord saith: it is unto Me easy, whereas surely I created thee afore when thou wast not aught. 9 He said: "O Lord, give me a token." "Though sound," He answered, "you will not talk to any one for three nights running." 10 So he came forth unto his people from the Sanctuary, then he made signal to them, 'Give you glory at dawn and evening.' 11 (We said:) "O John, hold fast to the Book;" and We gave him wisdom right from boyhood, 12 And compassion from Ourselves, and chastity; and he was extremely pious. 13 and cherishing his parents, not arrogant, rebellious. 14 And Peace be unto him the day he was born and the day he dieth and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
