The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
