The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 but, We see it as near! 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 and it will claim all those who turned their backs [on the true faith] and turned away [from the truth], 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man is created of a hasty temperament 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Not so, however, those who consciously turn towards God in prayer. 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 for such as ask [for help] and such as are deprived [of what is good in life]; 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 and guard their private parts 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
