He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And hath fear, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honoured leaves 13 lofty and pure, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
