The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 “And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you.” 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
