Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 By the night when it departs. 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 hell is certainly the greatest calamity. 35 a warning to humankind, 36 To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to remain behind (by commiting sins), 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 In gardens, they shall ask each other 40 concerning the sinners, 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They said, “We never used to offer the prayer.” 43 we fed not the needy, 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 “And used to deny the Day of Justice.” 46 until there came to us the certainty. 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 Fleeing from a lion! 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
