And We sent not a prophet to any township but We laid hold of the people thereof with tribulation and distress that haply they may humble themselves. 94 But when We changed hardship to ease, and they rose and prospered, (they forgot Our favours) and said: "Our ancestors had also known suffering and joy." So We caught them unawares. 95 And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah, We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied [the messengers], so We seized them for what they were earning." 96 Do the people of these towns now feel secure against the coming of Our punishment upon them by night while they are asleep? 97 Or else did they feel secure against its coming in broad daylight while they played about (care-free)? 98 Are they then secure from Allah's scheme? None deemeth himself secure from Allah's scheme save folk that perish. 99
