And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They said, “We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them.” 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They said, 'Nay, but we found our fathers so doing.' 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 And He Who, I long, shall forgive me my faults, on the Day of Requital. 82 My Lord! bestow on me wisdom and join me with the righteous. 83 And ordain for me a goodly mention among posterity 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 And the Fierce Fire shall be made apparent unto the seduced ones. 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship 92 other than Allah? Do they help you or even help themselves' 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error, 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 So none we have as intercessors. 100 no caring friend. 101 Would that we could have a chance to live again so that we might become believers." 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
