The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 And We see it nigh. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 tearing away his skin! 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits-- 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 These it is who in the gardens [of paradise] shall be honoured! 35
