The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
