The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 Verily We created man from a sperm yoked (to the ovum) to bring out his real substance, then gave him hearing and sight. 2 We have indeed shown him the way – whether he is grateful or ingrate. 3 We have indeed kept prepared chains, and shackles and a blazing fire for the disbelievers. 4 Surely the devotees will drink cups flavoured with palm blossoms 5 A fountain from which the servants of Allah shall drink; they make it to flow a (goodly) flowing forth. 6 They fulfil their pledges, and fear a day the evil of which is widespread. 7 They feed the destitute, orphans, and captives for the love of God, saying, 8 (Saying),"We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks. 9 for we fear from our Lord a stern, frownful Day' 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that day, and gave them freshness and joy. 11 And reward them for their perseverence Paradise and silken robes, 12 Reclining therein upon couches, they will find there neither (heat of) a sun nor bitter cold. 13 Near them shall be its shades with its clusters hung gently down, 14 Vessels of silver and goblets of pure crystal will be passed round among them 15 (Transparent as) glass, made of silver; they have measured them according to a measure. 16 And they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil,- 17 A spring there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths will go about them, when you see them, you would suppose them to be scattered pearls. 19 Whitherto you look around, you will see an abundance of bliss and the glories of a great kingdom. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and of brocades. And adorned they shall be with bracelets of silver: and their Lord shall give them drink a beverage pure. 21 (And it will be said unto them): Lo! this is a reward for you. Your endeavour (upon earth) hath found acceptance. 22
