Now, behold, this [divine writ] has indeed been bestowed from on high by the Sustainer of all the worlds: 192 It has been revealed through the trustworthy Spirit 193 Upon your heart, for you to convey warning. 194 In the plain Arabic language. 195 (a revelation embodied) in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is not the fact (that the Israelite scholars already knew about the Quran through their Book) sufficient evidence for the pagans of the truthfulness (of the Quran)? 197 Had We revealed it to a man of obscure tongue 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We caused this [message] to pass [unheeded] through the hearts of those who are lost in sin: 200 they will not believe in it until they see the grievous punishment. 201 so that it will come upon them suddenly, while they are not aware, 202 And they will say, "May we be reprieved?" 203 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 204 What thinkest thou? If We give them enjoyment of days for many years, 205 And afterwards comes to them that (punishment) which they had been promised! 206 What shall that which they enjoyed avail them? 207 Never did We destroy a population, but had its warners - 208 to admonish them. We have never been unjust. 209 No evil ones have brought down this (Revelation): 210 It behoveth them not, nor they can. 211 The satans are barred from listening to anything from the heavens. 212 So call not thou unto another god along with Allah, lest thou be of the doomed. 213 And warn your near relations, 214 Lower thy wing to those who follow thee, being believers; 215 If they do not obey you, tell them: "I am not responsible for what you do." 216 And rely thou upon the Mighty, the Merciful. 217 Who seeth thee when thou standest up (to pray) 218 and observes your movements among those who prostrate themselves. 219 Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They descend on every great accuser, extreme sinner. (The magicians) 222 They give ear, but most of them are liars. 223 As for poets, the erring follow them. 224 Seest thou not that they wander distracted in every valley?- 225 and they say what they do not do? 226 Except those who believe and do the right, and remember God a great deal, who retaliate only when they have been wronged. Yet the oppressors will now come to know through what reversals they will be overthrown! 227
