The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
