Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the dawn 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 The night as it advances, 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Enter among My servants 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
