He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he feareth 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
