The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 who seeks to drive you from your land what do you command' 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 who should bring to you every skillful magician." 112 And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors." 113 He answered: Yes, and surely ye shall be of those brought near (to me). 114 They said, "O Moses, either you throw [your staff], or we will be the ones to throw [first]." 115 He [Musa (Moses)] said: "Throw you (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic. 116 And [then] We inspired Moses, "Throw down thy staff!" - and lo! it swallowed up all their deceptions: 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 Thus were they there defeated and brought low. 119 And the wizards fell down prostrate, 120 saying, "We declare our belief in the Lord of the Universe, 121 the Sustainer of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "You have believed in him [Musa (Moses)] before I give you permission. Surely, this is a plot which you have plotted in the city to drive out its people, but you shall come to know. 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said: Lo! We are about to return unto our Lord! 125 Thou takest vengeance upon us only because we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour out upon us patience, and gather us unto Thee surrendering.' 126
