Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), 35 a warning to humankind, 36 A warning unto him of you who shall go forward or who chooseth to lag behind. 37 Every soul will be a pledge for that which it hath earned, 38 Save the fellows of the right. 39 In gardens, they shall ask each other 40 about the sinners. 41 "what led you into hell?" 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 and we denied the Day of Judgement 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 The intercession of the intercessors will be of no benefit to them. 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 As though they were frightened asses 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay, every man of them desires to be -- given -- scrolls unrolled. 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 No, indeed, surely, this is a Reminder. 54 Let him who will take heed: 55 But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving 56
