Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 in a sublime garden, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 And cups put in place 14 And cushions lined up 15 And linen spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
