Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 and the ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 led rebellious lives, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
