The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Concerning what are they disputing? 1 About the Great News 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 a fitting requital, 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
