The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
