The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And extended shade, 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
