Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 cushions ranged, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
