The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 Pollution shun! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
