The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 , A fitting reward. 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
