Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter among My servants 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
