[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 140
