In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 Verily We! anon We shall cast upon thee a weighty word. 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He. So take Him alone for your Guardian, 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 and Pharaoh rebelled against the apostle, whereupon We took him to task with a crushing grip. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19
