The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 purify your garments; 4 And stay away from idols. 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 and who still desires more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he beheld, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
