He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 You neglect. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
