The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
When the sun is folded up, 1 When the stars fall, losing their lustre; 2 And when the mountains are removed 3 and when she-camels big with young, about to give birth, are left untended, 4 and when all beasts are gathered together, 5 the oceans are brought to a boil, 6 And when the souls are paired. 7 questions are asked about the baby girls buried alive, 8 For what sin she was killed 9 And when the Writs shall be lain open, 10 when heaven is stripped, 11 when Hell is set ablaze, 12 when Paradise is brought near, 13 A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it]. 14 I swear by the receding stars. 15 The planets withdrawing into themselves, 16 by the night swarming, 17 and brightening morning, 18 This is indeed the recitation of an honoured Noble Messenger. (Angel Jibreel – peace and blessings be upon him.) 19 having power, with the Lord of the Throne secure, 20 there he is obeyed and held trustworthy. 21 And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; 22 he truly beheld him [the angel] on the clear horizon. 23 He is not avid of the Unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 So where are you going? 26 It is nothing but Good Counsel for everyone in the world, 27 Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
