Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 and couches raised high, 13 And chosen goblets. 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
