Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 And enter into My garden. 30
