Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha Mim 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
