The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
