The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked around, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
