The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
