Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And ten nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Not at all but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
